Appeal to save oldest bulding on Goodge Street from demolition #Fitzrovia

(download)

Campaigners are asking those who live and work in Fitzrovia to oppose a planning application to redevelop the corner of Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road because it includes demolishing 1-3 Goodge Street and proposes an "alien" corner building. The proposals would do great damage to the Charlotte Street conservation area.

1-3 Goodge Street was built in 1763 and is the oldest building in the street. The Charlotte Street Association is asking people to oppose this planning application http://bit.ly/2012-2220-P and email Camden's planners telling them to reject the demolition plans.

Exemplar sells Fitzrovia flats for millions on "Asian roadshow" video

Property developer exemplar has been touring Hong Kong and Singapore. Westminster Council criticised over affordable housing.

Channel NewsAsia reported:

Fancy living in the same neighbourhood as Lady Gaga? Some investors in Hong Kong have shelled out more than 8 million pounds for that privilege.

They have snapped up apartment units in a new development called Fitzroy Place, located in London's Fitzrovia district.

According to its developer Exemplar Properties, the price range for a unit at Fitzroy Place is between 605,000 pounds and 8.5 million pounds.

The mixed-use development comprises 237 private apartments and 200,000 sq ft of prime office space. Exemplar said UK buyers will probably take up 50 per cent of units at Fitzroy Place, followed by East Asians, with 15 to 20 per cent.

Redevelopment of Centre Point, 103 New Oxford Street, WC1

I am writing to invite you and your members to a meeting of the Camden Development Management Forum on Thursday 24th May at CBI Conference Centre, Centre Point, 103 New Oxford Street, WC1A 1DU . Doors will open at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start. The meeting will finish at 8.30pm.

At this meeting developers will present a proposal to develop Centre Point, 103 New Oxford Street , WC1

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the proposal before a planning application is made.
After a presentation by the developer there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and to give your views on the proposals as they stand at this stage.

The proposal is:

  • change of use of Centre Point tower from offices to residential
  • change of use of the lower floors of Centre Point House to retail and restaurant uses (class A1 and A3),
  • erection of a ground floor extension to the bridge link to provide retail/restaurant floorspace, and
  • refurbishment of facades and windows to both buildings.

A planning application has not been received from the developer for this site. If one is submitted in the future Camden Council will carry out statutory consultation in the normal way and determine it in accordance with our duties as the local planning authority.

The meeting will not be making decisions about the development proposal, nor are the developers required to take account of the discussion in any future application, which the Council must determine on its planning merits.

If you need any further information or help about the Development Management Forum you can contact me by phone on 020 7974 1797 or by email at dawn.allott@camden.gov.uk. You can also find more information about the Development Management Forum in the Major Developments section of our website.

We want to make sure that all sections of the community are able to participate in the Forum so if you require an interpreter (for a language other than English or for British Sign Language), need information in other formats or have any special needs please let me know.

I hope you are able to attend and look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Yours faithfully,

TfL have released more information about travel ‘hotspots’ during the games period. In Camdne, Kings Cross, Euston, Holborn and Chancery Lane stations will be exceptionally busy during the Games, and Farringdon, Russell Sq and Goodge St expected to be busier than usual.  The  Get ahead of the Games website provides information on how journeys could be affected, alternative routes, estimated wiating times and updates on what stations to avoid and when.
Russell Square drop-in sessions
We are holding two days of drop in sessions to give those who live, work and travel through Russell Square the opportunity to learn about the media hub and how it will impact the area. Officers from LOCOG, TfL and Camden will be available to answer any queries.  The information stand will be located in Russell Square gardens, with officers available Saturday 28 April, 11am-4pm and on Tuesday 1 May, 7-10am and 12-2pm.

To help businesses prepare for the Olympics, a series of free workshops and drop-in sessions are available across London .

Business workshops will provide you with an overview of the transport impacts in your area. Click here to register

Drop-in sessions are available for businesses to speak with a team of experts about the local impacts of the Games in your area. The next session in Camden is on 26 April: 10am–4pm - 344-354 Grays Inn Road, London, WC1X 8BP

Freight workshops
These workshops help transport companies, suppliers and their customers keep running smoothly during the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer. The next freight workshops in Camden are on 9, 15, 24 and 30 May. Click here to register

Camden Council recognise that deliveries and collections during this period will be challenging for businesses. We are therefore taking a more relaxed approach to night time deliveries.  Please make sure you visit our 2012 web pages for more information about recommended delivery times and restrictions.

DHAKA THEATRE IN LONDON - The Tempest in Bangla directed by Nasir Uddin Yousuff

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am thrilled to bring you news that Nasir Uddin Yousuff’s new production of The Tempest in Bangla will be performed at Shakespeare’s Globe in London this 7th and 8th May.

This is the first time ever that Dhaka Theatre will be performing in the UK and the very first Bangla-language production at The Globe.

We would be very excited if you could pass on information about the show to your networks, either by forwarding the e-flyer attached, or we can send you flyers and posters in the post if you would rather. As this is such a major achievement for Bangladeshi theatre we really hope that the theatre will have a strong Bangladeshi audience and we know that you can play a part in helping us to achieve this goal.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information or do send me your address if you would like us to send you flyers and posters.

Many thanks and warm wishes,

Imogen Butler-Cole

Group Discussion: Energy in the UK

Group Discussion: Energy in the UK

We would like to invite you for a group discussion to talk about the future of energy production and the role of local groups in participating in these issues. We are a group of researchers at UCL looking into what people think about future energy needs and production in the UK. We are especially interested in finding out about energy-related opinions held by members of local community groups. Thus, we are bringing together small groups of people like you to talk about energy.

This would be a focus group that would last about two hours and we would pay you £20 towards your travel, and donate £40 to your organisation. Food and refreshments would also be provided.  The session would be at UCL, Gower Street, WC1 on May 1th 2012. We would start at 6pm and end by 8pm.

The group itself would consist of eight to ten other people, who, like yourself are involved in environmental groups in London. Expertise on energy issues is not required. Most of the time that you are there, you'll be talking among yourselves in a group discussion led by an UCL academic.

We will be tape recording that session so that we have a good sense of what people said. We will keep that tape, and anything you say, completely confidential. The research project is covered by UCL code of ethics and our first priority is to protect your privacy.

For planning purposes we would appreciate a brief answer by phone (020 7679 2094) or E-Mail (andreas.reinhardt.11@ucl.ac.uk) by the end of next week (28.04.2012)

Yours sincerely
Andreas Reinhardt (Research Assistant)
